Puppy and Kitten Care in Littleton, CO The team at Coal Mine Animal Hospital is proud to provide comprehensive puppy and kitten veterinary care to the Littleton area! Your Puppy or Kitten’s First Visit to Coal Mine Animal Hospital When your new puppy or kitten is brought in for their first visit to Coal Mine Animal Hospital, you can expect to be educated about your pet’s needs! We will provide an initial health examination, checking for any health concerns, and we’ll discuss the importance of behavioral training, vaccinations, microchipping, fecal parasite checks, and deworming, administering all that are needed. For kittens, we will test for feline leukemia and FIV. We also recommend spaying and neutering by the age of six months. At your first visit, your pet will receive their own notebook with their picture on the front. That notebook will be their go-home packet for keeping track of their records. Why Do Puppies and Kittens Need Multiple Booster Vaccines? Puppies and kittens receive antibodies from their mothers during nursing. These antibodies protect from disease, but neutralize our vaccines. Maternal antibodies decline during the first few months of life and eventually drop off, leaving the puppy or kitten unprotected. A series of vaccinations beginning at about 6-8 weeks of age gives the best chance of stimulating the immune system as the maternal antibodies decline. Contact us to schedule an appointment.
